    French adventurer Charles Hedrich (51) is to attempt to travel from the North Pole to the South Pole, taking less than a year in the process. His route will take him through Europe, West Africa and South America.

    The expedition will start from the corner of the airport in Kangerlussuaq (in Sønderstrøm Fjord) and finish at a small village nearby Isortoq on the other side of the land.

    A distance at about 3500 km will be covered by the two participants of this expedirion, Danish Erik Bruun Jørgensen and Jesper Melin Ganc-Petersen, over 3-4 months across Greenland. Only by sledge, skis and kites.

    Early March 2009, Briton Christina Franco (43) will attempt to complete the first female solo expedition to the North Pole. The 775 km journey from Ward Hunt in northern Canada will be undertaken on foot pulling supplies including food and fuel on a sled.

    In 2009, Eric Larsen will begin an unprecedented journey to the top, bottom and roof of the world. During a continuous 365-day period, Larsen will mount major expeditions to the summit of Mt. Everest, the South Pole and North Pole. This feat has never been completed in one year. To date, only 15 people (no Americans) in history have been to all three ‘poles'.

    This scientific endeavour begins in early February 2009. The expedition is being led by highly experienced polar explorer Pen Hadow. Accompanying him will be Ann Daniels, one of the world's foremost female polar explorers and Martin Hartley, leading expedition photographer.
