Beyond Endurance
Expedition News-Official Website
From 05.12.2007 to 20.01.2008 - Status: success
This is Stage Two of an expedition of which the first part took place last year on South Georgia Island. The aim of these adventures: impress the Irish community throughout the world.
"'The Irish Beyond Endurance' expedition led by Pat Falvey will capture the hearts and minds of all Irishmen all over the world"; this is how this excursion is presented on the expedition's official website.
Last year, the words were the same. Pat Falvey brought people who had no experience in Polar Regions to South Georgia Island to follow the tracks of the famous English explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. About thirty people crossed a difficult glacier and the excursion was a huge success.
This time, Pat Falvey is introducing his neophytes to the traditional Hercules Inlet - South Pole route. He will be pursuing the same objective and persevering with his idea of trying to enable ordinary people to do something extraordinary at least once in their lives. It's true that even if the Hercules âSP route has became one of the busier routes which no longer represents any great difficulty for those who are accustomed to the Polar Regions, the route nevertheless remains a heck of a challenge for those who have never set foot on the 6th Continent!
