Multiple world record holder for endurance running Pat Farmer (48) is on the road again. This time, he is tackling the great run North Pole -> South Pole to raise funds for the Red Cross.
This Pole to Pole run is divided into 5 stages :
- Stage 1 : The Arctic (760 km ice trek), a 4 men team will depart beginning of April from North Pole and trek until the north coast of Canada trying to reach Ward Hunt. Four guys will be part of this trek : Pat Farmer, Eric Phillips (Expedition Leader), Jose M. Naranjo (Camera), Clark Carter (Satellite Video Uplink).
- Stage 2 : From Canada to Panama, a 11 744 km road run with a tem of 14 : Bernie Farmer (Logistics Leader), Medical Team x 4, TV Crew with satellite television internet uplink x 6, Drivers, fixers, interpreters x 3, RVs x2, Support SUVs x 6. Starting on the frozen road made famous in Ice Road Truckers, Pat runs through Canada and down the USA West Coast. At Los Angeles he turns East and runs through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, entering Mexico via Matamoros. Pat runs through Central America until the road runs out soon after crossing the Panama Canal.
- Stage 3 : Darien Jungle, 250 km jungle trek with a team of 24 : Pat Farmer, Local guide – Expedition Leader, 2 man camera and satellite team, 20 man armed security entourage. Because this area is unsafe, Pat and his men will be escorted by an armed security team.
- Stage 4 : South America, 9 643 km road run with a team of 15, Pat Farmer, Bernie Farmer (Logistics Leader), Medical Team x 4, TV Crews with satellite television internet uplink x 6, Drivers, fixers, interpreters x 3, RVs x 2, support SUVs x 6. From Northern Columbia, Pat runs South through Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina, reaching Ushuaia, the world’s Southern-most city. Airlift backwards, North, to Punta Arenas, the air hub to Antarctica. Fly to Ronne Ice Shelf, Antarctica.
- Stage 5 : Antarctica, 900 km ice trek from Ronne Ice shelf to SP, with a 4 men team : Pat Farmer, Eric Phillips (Expedition Leader), Jose M. Naranjo (Camera), Clark Carter (Satellite Video Uplink).
