This section centralises the names, nationalities and short bios of the polar explorers that have appeared on this website since it was launched in November 1997. Please bear in mind that this section is a work in progress

Kirk Ian (Great Britain)
Ian Kirk (born in 1980) was one of the team members of the RAF 'Southern Reach' expedition which has attempted the trek Hercules Inlet - South Pole during autral summer season 2006-07. They had to be rescued by ALE logistic being at only 190 km from the Pole.

Landry Paul (Canada)
The Canadian Paul Landry (06/09/1955), explorer, author and adventurer, is one of the best known polar guides in the world. Hailing from Ontario, which is the Canadian province with the largest population, he loved the extreme cold from an early age, never hesitating to go off on his own, skiing in winter and kayaking in summer, exploring the many wild and wonderful areas located not far from the small community of Smooth Rock Falls where he lived.

Lapierre Sébastien (Canada)
Together with Olivier Giasson, Sébastien Lapierre has tried a Greenland crossing in spring 2010. Both had to abandon due to the fact that arrived on the spot, they had received bad information and they have been dropped quite far (3 days skiiing) from the glacier they had choosen to climb to get on the plateau.

Larsen Eric (United States)
Eric Larsen's life epitomizes adventure. A polar explorer, dog musher, adventure racer and educator, he has spent the past 12 years of his life adventuring in some of the most remote and wild places left on earth. Totaled, Eric has traveled enough wilderness miles to circle the globe nearly two and half times.

McDonald Ben (Great Britain)
Cadet Petty Officer Ben McDonald was a member of the 'Polar Watch' Expedition initiated by the Royal Navy. Together with five other companions, they have made the trek Resolute Bay - Magnetic North Pole, during the spring season 2006.(We have not followed this expedition).

McIntyre Rob (Great Britain)
Sergeant Rob McIntryre was a member of the 'Polar Watch' Expedition initiated by the Royal Navy. Together with five other companions, they have made the trek Resolute Bay - Magnetic North Pole, during the spring season 2006.(We have not followed this expedition).

McKeand Hannah (Great Britain)
Hannah is an accomplished polar guide and expeditioner and in 2006 set a world record for skiing from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole; a 690 mile journey she completed in just 39 days, 9 hours and 33 minutes. She has now skied to the South Pole six times, more times than any other person in history, and completed numerous expeditions in the other polar regions of the world.

McNeill Jim (Great Britain)
With more than a quarter of a century of Arctic travelling, Jim McNeill is an accomplished polar explorer, presenter and keynote speaker. In January 2001 he conceived the idea of combining his professional rescue expertise with his polar expeditioning into a long term vision known as the Ice Warrior Project.

Meagan McGrath (Canada)
Meagan McGrath is the first Canadian woman to summit 'The Seven Summits'. At 32, she continues to pursue her dream : to reach South Pole, solo and unassisted, and to climb next season the five highest peaks in the world.

Reinhold Messner is, without a doubt, the most famous explorer/mountaineer of our time. Not only did he initiate a number of inventions in the climbing field, he has also achieved a fair number of world firsts.
