After all the setbacks the spanish expedition has encountered these last week (sudden rush to fly fom Novo to the Plateau, the bad weather, the Inmarsat problems, the damage to one of their prototype kites), they could finally start their gliding towards the Pole.

When they landed at the Novolazsarevskaia base, Larramendi and comrades had almost no time to make the final preparations of the voyage. Four hours after landing, they had to fly right away to their departure point.

By a curious coincidence, two nations -England and Norway- undertook the conquest of the South Pole the same Austral season : 1911-12. The protagonists were Robert Falcon Scott for Great Britain and Roald Amundsen for Norway. A fascinating story.
