An incident-free crossing

Published on 04.05.2009 - General Info

The six Finns on the 'Greenland 2009 Expedition' have safely arrived in Isortoq to complete what has been a problem-free crossing.

Apart from the two team members who abandoned the trek along the way (Teija Parkkinen, 41, and Arto Suhonen, 51), the six Finns have enjoyed a pretty smooth journey, arriving without the slightest hiccup at their destination on 29th April.

The group set out on 28th March from Kangerlussuaq on the west coast of Greenland. Averaging about 25 km a day, they made a short (but complete) crossing of the island, covering an approximate distance of 650 kilometres. They had hoped to finish their trek in four weeks, but in fact took a total of 33 days – which just shows that even tourists can count!
