Like a well-oiled clock

Although the conditions continue to be tough, Chus Lago is happy with her steady progress, despite suffering from loneliness.

21.2 km on 4th December, 20 km the following day, 20.5 km last Saturday, on the 6th, 18 km yesterday and 20.5 km today, Monday. In spite of the fact she is alone, the Spanish explorer is eating up the kilometres with great consistency.

In her daily blog she doesn't disclose much in the way of detail, preferring to concentrate on her trek and the conditions she has to contend with. But at the end of last week she revealed a glimmer of hope by telling her HQ that the terrain was improving every day and that the sastruggis had finally disappeared. "Let's hope that's the end of them," she wrote in her dispatch for the day.

But while the wind had fallen and visibility had improved on 7th December, the sastruggis were back in significant numbers along her route. After 27 days, Chus has covered approximately 342 kilometres; still another 746 km to go!
