Sick as dogs

The four Baffin Babes are making slow progress in one of the most remote areas in the north of Baffin Island. And as they rounded a rocky outcrop, they met a very unusual Californian.
Unusual because when you are invited to come and eat pizza and homemade cookies and you are a hundred leagues from the nearest civilisation and you are also in some lost valley buried deep in snow, it's a pretty tempting offer. But this is exactly what the 4 Baffin Babes did when they met this unusual American who was camping in the mountains of Baffin Island and who simply exclaimed when he saw the girls as they virtually bumped into him on their way: "Hey girls, why don't you come and eat pizza and some cookies I just baked at my place...?" "Why not, indeed?"
The girls stayed with the American climber for a couple of days. He was there to accomplish a few 'firsts' and had set up camp in a location where not only he had the time to cook when he wanted to, but also had managed to get his iPod to produce music that could be heard far and wide in the valley.
So it is no wonder that the four girls fancied staying a while amid this luxury from another world. All the more so because since they left Clyde River, they have all fallen ill, one after the other. Stupendous stomach ache and dynamite diarrhoea.
So much did they appreciate the kind intentions of the American that they found it hard to get back on their way. But they had to resume their trek and, 24 hours after stopping in such good company, they were back in the snow and on their way, taking their stomach cramps with them.
