BBC TV Blue Peter Presenter Helen Skelton and her mate Niklas are heading towards the South Pole. They reached the half way point on 10 January.

Taking the bikes along was not such a bad idea after all : on 10 January they started biking in the morning and after 7 hours biking gently on the ice (of course there was no wind and the terrain was flat -as always when getting nearer to the Pole), Niklas and Helen had covered 20 nautical miles.

They have another 247 miles to cover to reach SP.

In the meantime, young Helen is worrying about her hair not being washed for such a long time and about the smell of her body. "Speaking of hot water", she said on 10 January, "I've been promised lots of it so I can have the first proper wash since arriving in Antarctica! I have to admit it - I stink"...
