Stop-over on King George Island

Published on 08.12.2007 - General Info

The Bowermaster expedition has arrived in the southern waters after a trouble-free crossing from Ushuaia.

Before setting out to explore the immediate surroundings of the Antarctic Peninsula and, more specifically, the area around which the Larsen Ice Shelf broke off, the expedition leader took his group on a gentle cruise around Lemaire Channel. But before they did that, they dropped off their kayaks on King George Island.

While waiting to head out for the Weddell Sea, they stopped for a while on Petermann Island so that they could visit a project whose sole aim is to spend the summer on this tiny scrap of land counting the number of penguins who live on it.
