Stuck in Punta Arenas…

Published on 25.11.2007 - Optical Express South Pole Challenge

Since they arrived in Chile on 14th November, Cameron and John have been working non-stop on the final details of their adventure. But there are still no flights going to Patriot Hills – the weather continues to be awful there...

So, just like the previous expeditions leaving for Antarctica, the Optical Express South Pole Challenge has been tied down in Punta Arenas by the weather. The wind is the biggest problem (reports say there are terrible blizzard conditions at Patriot), but so is the poor visibility. It is preventing ALE's Ilyushin from landing on the ice.

This means that Cameron Hudson and John Huston have no other choice than to keep working on the preparation and finishing touches of their equipment and – when the weather's fine – go and play a few rounds at the local golf club. They are already wondering whether they'll have enough time to make the trek from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole.
