Now that the official ceremonies are over, Mike Horn continues to progress quietly towards the Pole with his three companions.
Today, Monday 19th January, there are only another twenty or so kilometres to go for Mike, Borge Ousland and the two youngsters Clémence and Nicolas, selected by Mike's Pangea Project. They are advancing at the rate of about 25 kilometres a day and, according to Horn, the two young men who had no experience of polar travel before, are performing very well on the ice. They should reach the Pole this Monday evening.
Meanwhile, in Switzerland, other young people who have enrolled for the Pangea Project, are preparing for a two-day trek in the Swiss mountains. They will be learning about communication and the various techniques of film and publishing.
The latest news that we have of Albert II's trip dates from 15th January when the prince and his team visited the 'Dry Valleys', not far from the American base at McMurdo.
Also worthy of a mention is the final kilometre covered by a number of Spaniards with handicaps as part of a trip organised by Ramon Laramendi and Tierras Polares
