They’re Halfway There

Eric Larsen and his two clients, Liu Dong Sheng and William Hanlon, have arrived at their resupply point in the Thiel Mountains. This is also the geographical landmark that shows that they're already halfway there.
Satisfaction within the trio: "Today is a special day", Larsen wrote in his 11 December update. "Not only because the approach of the Thiel Mountains was a spectacle that defied description, but also because we have just passed Degree 85 and it has taken us only 25 days to get here . A result that we're really chuffed about... All the more so as we have reached the mid-point of our adventure..."
On 08 December, the trio took a little rest for half of the day. This allowed a little introspection for each of them and some profound contemplation of their immediate life experiences. The following day, Larsen let himself go by writing that, with the passing days, he felt less and less like a traveller and more and more like a real entity that was part and parcel of the landscapes that they were discovering.
That same day, Larsen, sincerely concerned by the outcome of the Copenhagen Conference, explained in detail why President Obama really has the power to sign an agreement on a significant reduction of CO2 emissions without referring it to the almighty American Congress. For Larsen, Obama cannot return from Denmark without having obtained a reduction of CO2 emissions of at least 45% - over the year 1990 - by 2020.
On 13 December, they reached their food and fuel deposit in the Thiel Mountains. As a result, they repacked their bags on the sledges and wondered whether they might not take a full day's rest on the 14th.
