Mark was forced to take this difficult decision during the night of 25th-26th November. He had thought that he would be able to achieve his goal of reaching the Pole within 40 days, but he now realises after 18 days on the ice and 'only' 210 km covered out of a total of 1400 km that he will not be able to make it.

They have celebrated passing 83 degrees south and the first drop-off point.

Now that they have passed the 83rd parallel, some of the team members are already dreaming of the 85th, which means they will have completed half of their trek to the Pole.

Crevasses force the team to zigzag.

From time to time, the frozen continent produces dangerous crevasses that have to be bypassed. As these crevasses are not shown on the map, you simply have to adjust to the terrain that is ahead of you. So the distance calculated by the GPS does not always correspond to the actual distance to be covered.

After 22 days out on the ice, Todd Carmichael is just 23 miles or 42.5 km from breaking the speed record for this route.

With the approval of the doctor at Patriot Hills, the Finn has decided to travel 'the last degree'. But for logistical reasons, he had to wait until December before he can be dropped off at the 89th parallel.
